RANT ALERT !!!! "No offense but I have experience working with ESL authors. I am an editor who is a native English speaker. If you want to sell to English speaking parents, you should get your book edited by a native English speaker. "

I dislike people selling their services trying to show me as less than, or that they have inside knowledge or understanding of my target buyer, and now am even more upset when people "assume" I am not a "native English" speaker.

Do people even know that in countries colonized by Britishers most families today speak solely English and grow up with a better foundation of grammar and stories than maybe even homes that solely have "English speaking" as criteria for being called native?

My response to above -

"With all due respect, the target parent/reader for this is a child who has grown up speaking English but hearing various other languages.

A third culture kid like myself, who was born in a foreign country and whose first language was English even though they were raised in a bilingual household/ who usually don't grow up listening to "native English" (which sounds different in each home).

The market for this book and many diverse books is the multicultural child which today if you think about it, is every child, since the world has expanded so much and kids "hear/read" English/accents in many ways and look for representation in many forms. Thank you for your comment, though. I am glad you enjoyed the story. I appreciate your feedback and know where You are coming from. It's not the first time someone has assumed I am an ESL author. My personal expertise is the multicultural reader/market/inclusive classroom."

When I talk about my publishinh or editing experience, I talk about how much my client's books are loved, as much as mine. Not assumung what someone else's English qualifications are...

The story writing businesses in ALL aspects is evolving... Traditional publishers are now mimicking Indie-publishers telling unique stories.

THERE IS NO ONE WAY TO TELL A STORY!
